Freak Athlet Hyper Pro Exercises

2025 Freak Athlete Hyper Pro Review

And…is it worth it to upgrade your Nordic Hyper GHD?

Freak Athlete Nordic Hyper GHD to Hyper Pro Comparison

I recently purchased  the Nordic Hyper GHD on Craigslist so that I could better focus on posterior chain exercises that might heIp to alleviate the hip and lower back pain issues that most “mature” exercise enthusiasts face…I was at first a bit miffed that Freak Athlete had come out with a new model.

The new Freak Athlete Hyper Pro appeared to address my three primary concerns- Stability, Padding and the size of the GHD pad.

Dang, that new model was niiiiiiccee…but, was I really going to have to invest $1000 to get the latest, greatest?

Then I investigated further, and was relieved to find that I could retrofit my existing Nordic Hyper GHD with their upgrade kit.

Not only would it include a far superior GHD pad, the kit would provide greatly enhanced stability and comfort with their new support brackets and the luxurious padded elements found on the Hyper Pro.

My somewaht dated Nordic Hyper GHD was magically transformed to what is, for all intents and purposes…a brand new 3rd generation Freak Athlete Hyper Pro!

And, here’s the best part…it was all for an extremely reasonable $220.

The moral of the story…Freak Athlete proved that they are not only committed to innovation and providing quality fitness equipment…but, they value their loyal customers.  Instead of built-in obscelence, and chasing short term profits, they made it easy and affordable to upgrade equipment…and showed that they are one of the few companies that earn “customers for life” .

So, yes, I firmly believe the Freak Athlete Hyper Pro is worth the upgrade from the Nordic Hyper GHD. In fact, if you own the original Nordic Hyper GHD, retrofitting it with the Freak Athlete Upgrade Kit is an absolute “no-brainer”

It offers improved comfort, functionality and stability. You get better padding and and a greatly improved GHD Pad…all for a couple of hundred bucks.

And if you want to devote your fitness budget to expanded capabilies instead, Freak Athlete continues to innovate and create exciting new add-ons that are compatible with any of their base units:

  • Leg Developer
  • Belt Squat Attachment
  • Upper Body Kit
  • Cable Attachment

So…whether you are into cycling, kayaking, rowing or just a general fitness enthusiaist- the Freak Athlete Hyper Pro provides all the tools you need to bullet-proof your body and keep you in tip top shape to enjoy the activities you choose to live your “best life”!

Read on for my complete Freak Athlete Hyper Pro Review and see just how easy it was to upgrde…and find out more about exciting new updates and add-ons!

Overview of the Freak Athlete Hper Pro

And how it improved on the Nordic Hyper GHD.

Like many home gyms, the limited square footage in my basement dictated that the majority of the equipment was devoted to training “mirror muscles” …the chest, lats, bis, tris abs and quads.  There just wasn’t much room for anything else.

Freak Athlete changed all that when they introduced he Nordic Hyper GHD. It was a compact 6 in 1 mult-ifunction bench that was designed to target the often neglected posterior chain – the lower back, glutes and hamstrings.  These are typically the underdeveloped muscle groups that are responsible for much of the knee, hip and lower back pain that so many of us deal with -especially as we get older.

With a footprint that is not much larger than a traditional bench, it can even be stored vertically when not in use.

The latest generation – the Freak Athlete Hyper Pro stands out as a significant advancement over its predecessor, the Nordic Hyper GHD. This new model features notable design improvements, addressing user feedback to enhance overall functionality.

For instance, the improved padding material is not only more aesthetically pleasing, but it is significantly more comfortable .

Stability was greatly enhanced by the addition of a new U- shaped Pro Rear Base which extends the horizontal footprint and combines with a fold-down extension that allows vertical storage with the extended base.

Thw Hyper Pro now also includes a much improved GHD Pad (now standard!) which ensures optimal performance and provides a truly premium look and feel.

User testimonials consistently highlight the machine’s stability and versatility, particularly praising the addition of the recent Leg Developer and Upper Body Kit for expanded exercise options.

The additional of the new Belt Squat Attachment should only serve solidify the Hyper Pro as one of the most versatile and space and cost efficient premium pieces of equipment for the home gym enthusiast.

NOTE:  At the time this article was written, I am currently just a  satisfied Freak Athlete customer. I purchased all products at my own expense. The opinions are based on my own experience-which has been overwhelmingingly positive. Key Takeaways of the Hyper Pro

Back Extension

  • The Freak Athlete Hyper Pro features a durable 14-gauge steel frame and 8-gauge steel footplate, ensuring stability and longevity during workouts.
  • Assembly is reasonably straight forward with QR-coded instructions; thorough reading and video reviews are recommended.
  • It supports users from 5 to 7 feet tall with 12 height adjustments and 14 incline levels for diverse workout needs.
  • The equipment can be stored vertically, maximizing space efficiency compared to traditional gym setups.
  • A lifetime warranty offers peace of mind.

Shipping, Packaging and Assembly

Hyper Upgrade KitWhen it comes to shipping, I found the costs to be reasonable and the items arrived well packaged and marked. It should be noted that my personal experience was only for the Upgrade Kit and the Leg Developer…as I was upgrading my Nordic Hyper GHD -which I had purchased locally.

As the Freak Athlete products are in high demand, one should be prepared for longer lead times if/when back order or pre-order situations arrise.  I am still awaiting delivery of the cable add-on and will likely be ordering the Belt Squat attachment for review, shortly.

Once it arrives, the assembly was pretty straight forward.  There are now written instruction guides as well as QR codes for video instructions. I would strongly recommend reviewing both prior to assembly.  The parts are individually packaged, numbered by step and clearly marked.

While not particularly handy or adept at DIY installation and assembly projects, I was able to upgrade my Nordic Hyper GHD and assemble the Leg Developer in under an hour.

Design, Construction and Durability

The Freak Athlete Hyper Pro stands out with its robust design, featuring a frame constructed from 14-gauge steel base and tubing, ensuring stability during intense workouts.

Compared to its predecessor, the Hyper Pro boasts improved powder coating and thicker padding, which enhances both aesthetics and functionality. I appreciate the 8-gauge steel footplate, which adds an extra layer of durability.

The new smoother vinyl padding not only enhances comfort but also withstands rigorous use. While not quite as robust as some of the offerings from compaies like Rogue and Rep Fitness, it feels far superior to that which one might typically find on a multi-function piece of eqipment at this price point.

I found the lifetime warranty particularly reassuring, indicating the manufacturer’s confidence in their product.

While some testers noted minor design compromises, the overall construction was robust and should provide sufficient durability to warrant the lifetime warranty.

The Hyper Pro is built to withstand the rigors of realtively heavy use, but weighs in at 108 lbs, so it is still fairly easy to move around…and yet, is well engineered to provide a surprisingly stable platform. Great attention has been paid to the thoughtful details that enhance aethetics, feel and functionality, such as:

  • Color Coded Adjustment KnobsFreak Athlete Reverse Hyper
  • Knurled, Magnetic Foot Pegs
  • Laser Etched Numbering on Adjustment Components
  • A Fold Out “Kick Stand”for Vertical Storage
  • CNC Milled Logos on the Base and Footplate

All these small details contribute to on overall look and feel of a premium product…

For those of us who prioritize quality in our fitness equipment, this machine certainly meets expectations. It’s built to last, making it a reliable option for anyone looking to invest in their home gym.

Freak Athlete Hyper  Pro Specs and Space Efficiency

Freak Athlete Hyper Pro FootprintSpace efficiency is a standout feature of the Freak Athlete Hyper Pro, making it an ideal choice for home gym enthusiasts. Weighing just 108 pounds, this machine combines nine different workout functions into one compact design. It supports users from 5 to 7 feet tall, with 12 height adjustments and 14 incline levels for tailored workouts.

Plus, I love that it can be stored vertically, allowing me to reclaim floor space when I’m not using it. While it is in use, the dimensiona are 60″ x 22″ but, when vertically stored the footprint is a mere 22″x23″.

The Hyper Pro’s footprint is actually smaller than many stand-alone single function pieces such as a reverse hyper or a GHD-neither of which can typically be rolled away and stored in an upright position.

Combine that with the fact that the Hyper Pro can be expanded perform as many as 11 functions (and many more total exercises with the add-on attachments) and this may be one of the best space efficient multi-function values on the fitness market.

The thoughtful engineering behind this machine reflects a commitment to maximizing functionality while minimizing the area it occupies. If you’re looking to elevate your home gym without sacrificing space, the Freak Athlete Hyper Pro is a fantastic option that keeps your fitness area accessible and organized.

Versatility, Ergonomics and Adjustability of the Hyper Pro

Nordic Hyper GHD Adjustability

Not only is it space efficient, but the Freak Athlete Hyper Pro excels in functionality, ergonomics, and adjustability. The Hyper Pro in it’s basic configuration allows for one to effectively target many of the posterior chain exercises that are often lacking in many home gyms.

It is a GHD, and allows one to do Nordic Curls, Back Extensions, and Hip Thrusts, and Incline and GHD Abdominal exercise.  This machine offers multiple height and bot progession and regression angles for Nordic Curls and Back Extensions, enhancing workout efficiency and accommodating varying skill levels.

I’ve found that its 12 height adjustments and 14 incline levels cater to users from 5 to 7 feet tall, making it truly versatile for a range of workouts.

The machine combines multiple functions, allowing for exercises like Nordic hamstring curls, glute ham raises, and hip thrusts. While some movements rate higher than others, the overall performance meets my expectations for a home gym setup…and then some.

I appreciate the ease of switching between exercises, which keeps workouts dynamic and engaging. The Hyper Pro’s design encourages proper position and bio-mechanics, making it a great addition for anyone looking to enhance their training experience while maximizing space.

Freak Athlete Warranty and Customer Service

While I have no need to contact customer service, I would prefer to see a toll-free customer service line and a chat feature. (which keeps them from scoring a 10)

However, most users seem to appreciate the warranty and customer service options that come with the Freak Athlete Hyper Pro. The lifetime warranty is virtually unheard of in this industry and provides unmatched peace of mind.

The fact that Freak Athlete is focused on continual improvement, while also supporting older models and providing cost-effective upgrade options is a strong indicator of their company philosphy and their commitment to their customers.

In addition to the lifetime warranty, they even offer a 30-Day money back return policy-which even includes shipping!

Hyper Pro Price and Value

Freak Athlete GHD

Customer service and warranty options are important considerations when investing in fitness equipment, but the price and value of the Freak Athlete Hyper Pro stand out as major selling points.

Priced at around $1,000, it combines the functions of nine machines into one, offering remarkable versatility for home gym enthusiasts. To replicate the number of movements that can be done with the Hyper Pro, it would require investing in a number of of much pricier and bulkier seperate, exercise-specific pieces of equipment. I find the Hyper Pro provides superior functionality at a more budget-friendly rate.

With a compact design, it’s perfect for smaller spaces, and the lifetime warranty adds reassurance to my investment. Additionally, the risk-free 30-day return policy means you can try it risk-free, without worry.

Exercises you can do with the Freak Athlet Hyper Pro

It is billed as a 9-in-1 machine, but, fully equipped, it is capable of a host of other exercises, stretches and movements.  It’s versatility is only limited by your imagination!

Conclusion – The Freak Athlete Hyper Pro Deserves the Hype!

A Brief Summation of this Freak Athlete Hyper Pro Review

Nordic Hyper Pro with Leg Attach

Front stage in the Savvy Fitness Center…

The Hyper Pro stands out as a versatile piece of equipment for home gyms and provides all the tools one needs to effectively target and train the “Posterior Chain”…an area often neglected in most home gyms.

Freak Athlete Hyper Pro Accessories

Whether you have a legacy Nordic Hyper GHD or the latest generation Hyper Pro…Freak Atlete has intyrodcued some exciting attachments that are compatible with any model.

This ensure that all Freak Athlete customers can expand the functionality of their equipment, regardless of which model they own.

Freak Athlete Leg Developer

Freak Athlete Leg DeveloperThe Leg Developer has a quick release mechanism that makes it a snap to attach it to the main unit. I was very impressed with how secure it and stable it felt.

The Hyper Pro Leg developer is well designed biomechanically to provide a consistent resistance throughout the full range of motion on both leg extensions and leg curls.

The Hyper Pro can be placed at a decline when performing leg curls ensuring proper form.  There are even additional handle extensions that can be attached to allow for a fully stretched position when performing leg extensions.

The ankle pads are well padded and quite comfortable.

Though I was a bit skeptical at first, I found this unit to be superior to alternatives that were twice the cost.

Upper Body Kit

For a mere $30, they are basically just providing an extended strap handle with multipe attachment point.  Nevertheless, it adds quite a bit of value by enableing one to perform execises such as:

  • Face Pulls
  • Bicep Curls
  • Wood Choppers
  • Low Rows, etc.

Hard to argue that the upper body kit isn’t worth the money.

In addition, I found that I kept swiping the oversized rectangular/oval carbiner for use on other attachments and equipment in The Savvy Fitness Center 😉

Cable Attachment

As this attachment is still on backorder (high demand attachmenst can sell out quickly), I haven’t had an opportunity to  try this personally.

However, I am excited about the prospect of being able to attach this to my Nordic Track 360 Functional Trainer.

The concept is that the Hyper Pro can be attached to any low row selectorized pulley station to allow one to utlize the weight stack instead of having to manually swap out cumbersome free weights.

In my opinion, for $100, this is a game changer and will greatly enhance and streamline workouts!

NEW! Freak Athlete Hyper Pro Belt Squat Attachment

Freak Athlete Belt Squat AttachmentAnd speaking of game changers…this one is a biggie for cyclists of fitness enhusiasts looking to develop their hips and quads with squats – safely, and pain-free.

Due to shoulder mobility issues, I have been unable to perform squats for many years.  Traditionl belt squats were better, but usually require one to compromise safety, range of motion or form when using a land-mine set up or a rack-mounted belt squat attachment.

The Freak Athlete Belt Squat Attachment may very well be the optimal solution. (I just placed my order)

Equipped with a kickstand, it allows one to start in an upright position, to minimize the chance of injury.

Additionally, for those who might be a bit “balance challenged”, (guilty as charged) it comes an “assist bar adapter” that enable one to  use the Leg Developer curl pads throughout the movement for additional stablity.

And finally, the Belt Squat Attachment is equpped with a “safety catch” pad so that if you aren’t able to finish a rep, you can safely lower the weight and relase from tyhe bottom position.

To round it out, they also include a robust looking Freak Athlete Squat Belt and Calf Raise Block.
